The Rookie is ABC’s police procedural that follows the story of John Nolan, a recently divorced man in his 40s, who pursues a career as a police officer at the Los Angeles Police Department after inadvertently helping the police stop a bank robbery. Created by Alexi Hawley, the series is based on the true story of William Norcross, a real officer with the LAPD who moved to Los Angeles in 2015 and also joined the department in his mid-40s. The show premiered in October 2018 and was renewed for a sixth season on ABC, which will now air in 2024 due to the now-resolved Hollywood strikes.

Nathan Fillion (John Nolan)
Although The Rookie’s leading man has proposed multiple times to three different women, Nathan Fillion’s never been married and is currently single. The actor was last romantically linked to actress and model Krista Allen. He was also briefly engaged to Spanish actress Christina Ocha and actress Mikaela Hoover around 2013 – 2014. However, Fillion’s longest and most serious relationship was said to have been with Entourage actress Perrey Reeves from 2005 and 2009.
When asked what his exes would say about him if they were all together in one room, he told Women’s Health in September 2010, “Oh, boy. I’m still in touch with about 90 percent of my exes… They would describe me as being unlucky in love.”
Mekia Cox (Nyla Harper)
Mekia Cox, aka The Rookie’s Nyla Harper, is married to baseball analyst Britt Leach. The pair tied the knot on April 28, 2018, at Miami’s Samsara Gardens. The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, in 2018. Mekia announced in January 2022 that she was expecting their second child, and she also thanked The Rookie’s creator and showrunner Alexi Hawley for writing her pregnancy into the script.
“Much love to Alexi Hawley and the rest of The Rookie writing team for writing my pregnancy into the show. Happy to be on a show where pregnancy is acknowledged and celebrated,” the actress shared on Instagram in January 2022.
Alyssa Diaz (Angela Lopez)
Alyssa Diaz is engaged to singer/songwriter Gustavo Galindo and the couple also share a son. Like her costar Mekia Cox, the writers of The Rookie also wrote her pregnancy into the show in 2020. “Alyssa just had a baby in real life. That was part of our journey this season was her calling up to say, ‘I’m pregnant’ and us going, ‘OK, great you’re pregnant on the show,’” The Rookie‘s creator Alexi Hawley told ET in 2021.
As for her relationship with her fiance, she penned this sweet post about him for Valentine’s Day this past year. “To the love of my life @gustavo_galindo my forever valentine, thank you for always being so patient and loving with me – through the light and dark, you are always there for me,” the actress penned on Instagram. “I adore you my handsome! #happyvalentinesday.”
Richard T. Jones (Wade Grey)
Richard T. Jones recently raised eyebrows after he shared photos of himself with another woman in October 2023 and called her his “wife.” Jones and his wife Nancy got married in 1996, but she was not the person pictured in the photos alongside Jones. After some digging, we found court documents that show Nancy filed to divorce the actor in 2021, so he likely got remarried since then.
Eric Winter (Tim Bradford)
Eric Winter is married to his wife of 15 years, Roselyn Sánchez, a Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and actress. Winter was previously married to actress Allison Ford from 2001 to 2005, while Sánchez was formerly married to Gary Stretch from 1998 to 2001. A few months after Winter divorced Ford, he and Sánchez started dating in 2005, and Winter proposed two years later in 2007.
