UFC legend Conor McGregor congratulates new heavyweight slap fighting champion who suffered badly sw

UFC star Conor McGregor offered his congratulations to the new RXF heavyweight slap fighting champion.

The sport involves two competitors on either side of a podium taking turns to slap each other in the face as hard as they can.

The aim is to knock out or make your opponent quit and the results can be extremely brutal as evidenced in a recent RXF event in Romania.

Sorin Comsa survived ten rounds and a badly swollen face to stop his opponent who surrendered after taking one slap too many on Monday.

For his efforts, Comsa picked up the RXF heavyweight title, £4,430 (€5,000) in prize money, and some unlikely praise from one of the biggest sports stars on the planet.

McGregor tweeted alongside a video from Comsa’s match: “Absolutely gorgeous technique congrats the new heavy weight champion.”

However, ‘Notorious’ was responding to a clip of Comsa’s opponent landing a hellacious blow and it’s not really clear if he’s praising the ‘great technique’ on show by him or Comsa who expertly ate the slap and stayed in the fight.

The former dual-weight UFC champion’s newfound respect for slap fighting is timely, considering Dana White’s Power Slap League debuted on Wednesday evening.

Ex-UFC fighter Brendan Schaub has already ripped into the Power Slap League, claiming it is ‘the stupidest s***’ he’s ever seen.

Meanwhile, an estimated 295,000 people tuned in for the first episode.

It is regulated by the Nevada State Athletic Commission [NSAC], with fighters to be given 30 seconds to deliver the slap, with another 30 seconds for recovery.

The debut episode of the slap-fighting competition Power Slap: Road to the Title was supposed to air on January 11 but was delayed by one week due to its namesake White being caught on camera hitting his wife on New Year’s Eve.

White was caught on camera hitting his wife at a nightclub in Mexico at a New Year’s Eve party in a heated exchange between the couple.

The 53-year-old apologised for his actions but is facing widespread condemnation and some people are calling for him to step down from his leading role at the UFC.

It has since been confirmed that White will face no professional consequence for hitting his wife as he appeared as normal ahead of the UFC’s first event of the year.
